What is futsal
Futsal is the FIFA-recognised form of indoor football. The key constraints of the game include playing to lines rather than walls / boards, using a reduced bounce ball, and strict stop clock time rules which all result in a fast-paced game that rewards control, technique, movement and tactical awareness to a higher degree than physicality.
Futsal growth
Futsal is growing very quickly - at international level, there is a men’s World Cup, along with a men’s and women’s European championships. Scotland currently have an u14s, u17s, u21s, men's and women's side competing in the 2022 IFA World Championships in
Spain.
At club level in Scotland, PYF Saltires from Perth are the current champions of the men’s game and have recently represented Scotland in the preliminary round of the Champions league in Austria. There are currently regional leagues in Perth, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee feeding into the national league. There is currently no league or infrastructure in Aberdeen but we (Aberdeen Futsal Academy) are working hard to change that, and are making good progress with the Scottish Futsal League in terms of creating the Aberdeen regional league.
Aberdeen Futsal Academy
We have established a community interest company with the goal of building a futsal club and infrastructure in the Aberdeen and wider Grampian region to give youngsters in the area an affordable opportunity to play the game (either to develop their footballing abilities further or to play the sport in its own right with many opportunites as mentioned above). We will hold our first weekly youth training sessions on 7 October 2022 at Get Axctive @ Lochside Academy in Cove.
